The Four Places Where the Midterms Will Decide the Fate of Data Centers
New moratoriums and restrictions would threaten sector powering AI boom
By Amrith Ramkumar
Texas has the second-most data centers in the U.S.
Ernest Popescu had agreed to build a data center in Nashville, Tenn., this summer when local leaders passed a moratorium effectively banning new projects through December. The prospect of a lengthy delay prompted the chief executive of developer Metrobloks to withdraw and focus on other developments. Since then, Popescu has noticed investors who finance data centers worrying more about moratoriums popping up across the country and the likelihood that they could become more widespread following the coming elections.
